The Ukrainian Draft Authority announced on Tuesday that its officers are approved to use lethal force against citizens in “self-defense.”
The authorization comes following an attack on a military enlistment office in the city of Lutsk yesterday, which was targeted after an unidentified Ukrainian engaged in a firefight with security forces guarding the facility.

The endorsement of lethal force will heighten public disapproval with Ukrainian civilians as the war with Russia escalates, as the nation already battles an increasingly lawless effort to pull civilians into the military against their will. Videos have been circulating since the beginning of the war showing military officers abducting civilians and compelling them into military service against their will.
Ukrainian authorities estimate that about 100 military-aged men attempt to escape Ukraine every day, while other estimates put the number at more than 300.
