Trump Pledges Nationwide Concealed Carry Reciprocity
President-elect Donald Trump has announced plans to push for national concealed carry reciprocity, aiming to make concealed carry permits valid across all 50 states. Under this proposal, a permit issued in one state would be recognized in every other state, similar to the way driver’s licenses are treated.

Donald Trump Jr. shared the announcement on Instagram, stating, “Boom! My father just announced concealed carry reciprocity. The Second Amendment will stay and remain protected.”
This proposal aligns with Trump’s long-standing support for national reciprocity. In a policy paper from September 2015, Trump emphasized the importance of this measure, stating that the right to self-defense “doesn’t stop at the end of your driveway.” He argued that since a driver’s license is valid nationwide, it is “common sense” that a concealed carry permit should also be recognized in all states, highlighting that self-defense is a constitutional right, unlike the privilege of driving.
