The Ukrainian invasion of Kursk was the largest attack on Russia since World War Two and was an attempt by Kyiv to bring the war to Russia’s front door. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy calculated that the move would force Putin to the peace table.
As of last week, Ukraine controlled about 100 settlements in Kursk, about 500 square miles of territory.

However, Russia continues to make steady gains in Eastern Ukraine, controlling more than 20% of the entire country. Since the invasion of Kursk, Russian forces have accelerated their efforts in the Donbas, seizing almost an additional 400 square miles.
Officials familiar with the matter have stated the Russian President will not negotiate for peace while there are Ukrainian boots on Russian soil.
