In a statement released Wednesday night, the President’s office emphasized Argentina’s opposition to the Cuban dictatorship, asserting a commitment to a foreign policy that condemns regimes that violate human rights and individual freedoms.
Mondino will be replaced by businessman Gerardo Werthein, who previously served as Argentina’s ambassador to the United States. The statement noted that Werthein will continue the transformation of Argentine foreign policy.
On the same day of Mondino’s dismissal, Argentina voted at the UN General Assembly alongside 186 other nations to end the embargo on Cuba, with only the United States and Israel opposing the resolution—nations with which Milei seeks close alignment.
Milei reportedly sought explanations from Mondino after learning of the vote, expressing dissatisfaction with her response. Argentine government sources described the situation as “unusual” and “insane,” given the alignment with the U.S. and Israel.
Following Mondino’s dismissal, Milei announced plans for a purge within the Argentine diplomatic service. He stated, “Argentina is undergoing profound changes, and our diplomatic corps must reflect the values of freedom, sovereignty, and individual rights that characterize Western democracies.”
After 9 weeks of Javier Milei's administration, the Argentine government achieved its initial budget surplus in more than 12 years. To put it in perspective, Milei transformed a $1.2 trillion yearly deficit into a $400 billion surplus.

President Milei confirmed that the Executive Branch will begin a full review of the current Foreign Ministry’s staff to identify those individuals promoting a globalist, contrarian agenda and will act accordingly. Afuera!
