Rising Death Count
Israel’s military called for the immediate evacuation of more than 20 towns in southern Lebanon on Thursday, including the provincial capital Nabatieh, as it expanded its military operations in the region. This development came after Israel suffered significant military casualties, with eight soldiers killed during ground combat in south Lebanon on Wednesday.

Israeli forces entered southern Lebanon following two weeks of intense airstrikes. In Beirut, three explosions were reported in the southern suburb, with multiple plumes of smoke visible after heavy Israeli strikes. An overnight bombing in central Beirut resulted in nine fatalities, according to the Lebanese health ministry. This strike, which targeted a building in the Bachoura district near parliament, marked the closest Israeli attack to Beirut’s central downtown area.
A Hezbollah-affiliated civil defense group reported that seven of its staff members, including two medics, were killed in the Beirut attack. Israel described this as a “precise” airstrike. Additionally, Israel reported striking a municipality building in the southern Lebanese town of Bint Jbeil, stating that 15 Hezbollah members were killed. The southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh was also hit by more than a dozen Israeli missiles.

The escalation follows Iran’s largest-ever assault on Israel earlier in the week, which Iran stated was in response to previous Israeli actions. Israel has confirmed it eliminated several Hamas leaders three months ago, including Rawhi Mushtaha, the head of the Hamas government in Gaza, along with security officials Sameh al-Siraj and Sami Oudeh.
Lebanese government statistics indicate that the nearly year-long cross-border conflict has resulted in over 1,900 deaths and more than 9,000 injuries in Lebanon, with most casualties occurring in the past two weeks. Lebanon’s Caretaker Prime Minister reported that approximately 1.2 million Lebanese have been displaced due to Israeli attacks.

The humanitarian impact is evident as civilians seek shelter wherever possible. A Beirut nightclub has been converted into a refuge, currently housing over 300 displaced individuals.
In related developments, the Houthis reported launching a drone attack on Tel Aviv, while Israel stated it intercepted a suspicious aerial target in central Israel early Thursday. Hezbollah also reported detonating an improvised explosive device against Israeli forces in a southern Lebanese village.
