Iranian agents in Germany
Berlin, Oct. 28 (The Real Republic) – There is growing alarm regarding Iranian agents operating in Germany. Recent reports from German media indicate that intelligence agencies are investigating approximately 700 individuals connected to the Berlin-based Islamic University, the “Mustafa Institute,” for possible espionage activities on behalf of Iran.

Berlin-based news agency, BILD, previously uncovered that Iran’s intelligence apparatus supports global terrorist organizations, including Hamas and Hezbollah. The Quds Force, a specialized unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, reportedly uses the Berlin branch of Mustafa University to recruit spies and terrorists.
Documents from the U.S. Treasury Department label the Mustafa International University as a recruitment platform for the Quds Force, involved in collecting intelligence and recruiting foreign militias.

Investigative Focus on Three Secret Lists
The U.S. designated the Quds Force as a foreign terrorist organization in April 2019.
Authorities are currently examining three confidential lists:
- A list of 63 individuals holding German passports.
- A student directory from the Mustafa University that includes 551 people with ties to Germany.
- A list of 78 trainees from Germany.
In response to these findings, the Union is urging Interior Minister Nancy Faeser to ban the Islamist university immediately. Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU) leader Alexander Dobrindt emphasized the need to shut down Iranian Islamist institutions in Germany, stating that the threat from Iran is clear and demands urgent action.
Intelligence expert Christoph de Vries has also raised concerns, questioning why the Mustafa Institute has not been closed despite being listed on sanctions in the U.S. and Canada for years. He noted that the university was founded by Iranian leader Khamenei and plays a significant role in promoting fundamentalism and recruiting for the Quds Force’s terrorist activities.
