IDF Destroys Assad Military
Following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime after a swift rebel offensive, the Israel Defense Forces launched a 48-hour campaign of over 350 air and naval strikes across Syria. The IDF announced Tuesday it destroyed around 70-80% of the former regime’s strategic military assets—missiles, aircraft, naval vessels, and chemical weapon sites—to prevent them from falling into hostile hands, including Iran-backed groups like Hezbollah.

Codenamed “Bashan Arrow,” the operation targeted key weapons depots, airbases, radars, and missile batteries throughout Damascus, Homs, Tartus, Latakia, and Palmyra. Israeli Navy missile boats also sank 15 Syrian naval vessels near the coast. The initial strikes focused on disabling Syrian air defenses, giving the Israeli Air Force freedom to operate.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel does not aim to interfere in Syria’s internal affairs but will act forcefully to prevent Iran or other threats from emerging near its border. Defense Minister Israel Katz warned any new regime or hostile entity not to follow Assad’s path, stressing Israel’s resolve to maintain a demilitarized buffer zone in southern Syria. Despite widespread strikes, the IDF denied claims its ground forces advanced beyond the buffer zone, emphasizing that all actions are limited, defensive, and aimed at protecting Israeli security.
