Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) who produce Boeing’s 737 MAX view themselves as “victims” of the failed collective bargaining- expecting a proposed 40% pay raise over the next four years and instead being smacked with a 25% proposal this week.
BREAKING: @Boeing machinists vote to STRIKE, effective immediately. This means 32,000 @IAM751 and W24 members are on the picket lines starting TONIGHT. Vote to strike was 96% for it pic.twitter.com/gBUKmkRYOn

96% of the workers voted for a strike.
Boeing is suffering from a growing $60 billion mountain of debt and claims workers’ demands made it difficult for the company to invest in tech upgrades and the development and production of new models that will carry the company into the future.
Boeing’s last strike in 2008 lasted more than 50 days and cost the company $5 billion.
Many workers retaliated after IAM leadership recommended that its members sign the deal last week- holding out for the 40% goal and demanding annual bonuses.
Protests at Boeing plants in the Seattle area have been continuing all week and it is not immediately clear when a deal will be reached.
