I enjoy engaging in discourse to gain perspectives. However, when it comes to the topic of abortion, I draw the line. I have no desire to engage the hippie trying to pass me a petition to “Protect Women’s Rights” or any other person jumping on this bandwagon. Arguments in favor of abortion demonstrate extreme ignorance and little time should be wasted on them. When religion, science, and law merge to agree on a topic, maybe it is time to draw the line and remove all discussion.
In our two-party system, people often form ignorant all-or-nothing views along party lines. Among them, one of the most contentious topics is abortion, which ends a baby’s life. Few topics evoke such strong emotional responses as this. The people who argue against the life of babies disguise their evil as compassion. Their arguments lack any sense at all in recognizing abortion for what it is–murder.
The Bible provides insights into the value of human life. Scripture affirms that life begins at conception and that each human being is made in the image of God. Psalm 139:13 says, “For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” This passage emphasizes that life is sacred and worthy of protection before entering the world. A human’s life begins from the moment of conception.
In a famous Ben Shapiro debate, his young opponent stated that ‘sentience’, or having feelings, marks when life begins. This is another perversion of science and nonsensical. Sentience is a developing process, not instantaneous. Tying the value of life to sentience dangerously undermines the inherent worth of humans at all stages of development. Shapiro also destroyed the argument decisively.
Scientifically, the question of when life begins is clear. At the moment of conception, a unique human being is formed with distinct DNA. By the time most women even discover they are pregnant, the embryo’s heart is already beating. The broad label of ‘abortion’ used to capture all the human lives lost is despicable. Each unborn child has the potential for a unique story, life, and future. The dehumanization that takes place during these discussions is beyond comprehension.
One common argument for abortion is the assertion that a woman has the right to choose what happens to her body. However, pregnancy involves two bodies—the mother’s and the baby’s. The unborn child is a separate person with its own distinct DNA. The right to life, a fundamental human right, extends to the unborn. Denying this right is a tragedy that denies the future of another human. This is commonly referred to as murder.
Another argument often cited is that abortion is necessary or should be accepted in cases of rape or incest. While these tragic circumstances require compassion and support for the victims, taking the life of an innocent unborn child does not erase the trauma. Instead, it turns victims into perpetrators and continues a cycle of violence. There are resources to assist mothers in these circumstances that do not involve taking a life.
There is also the argument that abortion is justified in cases where the unborn child is diagnosed with a severe disability. This perspective fails to recognize the inherent value and dignity of all human life, regardless of condition. Many individuals with disabilities lead fulfilling lives and contribute significantly to society. By denying a child a future, we will never know the person they could have been.
A pro-life position is not merely about opposing taking a child’s life but about affirming the value of every human life. It is about providing support to women facing unplanned pregnancies, offering alternatives such as adoption, and ensuring that no woman feels that abortion is the only option. It is about building a culture grounded in moral decency, respect for life, and the law.
The pro-life stance is grounded in both biblical truth and scientific evidence. It challenges us to look beyond convenience to recognize the evil at play while acknowledging the value of every human life. By standing for life, we affirm that every human, from conception to natural death, is valuable. All lives matter. There are no accidents; every life was meant to be.
