A NATO air base in Geilenkirchen, Germany raised its security posture to “Charlie” on Friday after intelligence reports showed a high likelihood of terrorist attack.

NATO defines security level Charlie as “an incident has occurred, or intelligence has been received indicating that some form of terrorist action against NATO organizations or personnel is highly likely”.
A spokesman for the base said that base was operating at minimal staffing just to be safe but regular operations would continue during the heightened security event.

Earlier this month, a comparable event caused a nearby base in Cologne to take similar actions over feared water supply contamination.
Simultaneously, the air base in Geilenkirchen reported an unauthorized trespassing event.
