Following the passage of US and Canadian naval warships through the Taiwan strait, a nearly 110-mile-wide waterway that divides China and Taiwan in the South China Sea, German warships await orders from Berlin to follow suit.

Germany, which has not showed a presence in the straight since 2002, has yet to decide if they want to demonstrate their naval capability through the area due to rising conflict in the region.
German warships Baden-Wuerttemberg and Frankfurt am Main will make stops in Tokyo, South Korea, and the Philippines during the exercise alongside France, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, and the US.
Secondary to China’s perceived military dominance in the region, Germany aims to express its tactical presence in the South China Sea.
A massive trade partner with both China and Taiwan, Germany has recently deployed fighter jets to Japan for training drills to showcase their ability to conduct joint maritime operations.

Any German action will be closely monitored and likely escorted by Chinese forces.
