On Thursday, Kremlin officials reported that Russian forces have successfully thwarted a new incursion attempt by Ukrainian forces into the Bryansk region of Western Russia. Alexander Bogomaz, the region’s governor, stated that a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance unit was intercepted by Russian border guards approximately 150 miles north of the Ukrainian foothold in Kursk.

This incident comes as Ukrainian forces increase their efforts to attack border areas, adding complexity to the ongoing conflict. Despite these developments, Moscow has made consistent progress in Ukraine since the war began in February 2022.
While Russia asserts that Ukrainian incursions have been halted, Kyiv maintains that their operations are defensive in nature.
The actions of Ukrainian forces inside Russia have provided a morale boost for Ukraine, but US officials caution that further Russian attacks across Ukraine may be forthcoming, particularly as Ukraine approaches its national independence celebration this Saturday.
