Peace talks are set to resume Friday in Qatar seeking a Gaza ceasefire, in hopes of ending the current bloodshed and avoiding a larger scale, regional war. Talks began on Thursday between moderators from the US, Qatar, and Egypt. Hamas representatives are not present but are receiving status updates from representatives.
Back-and-forth negotiations have failed for several months due to ideological and political differences between Hamas and Israel- permanency being preferable to a temporary solution.

Arguing that ongoing military actions were necessary for peace negotiations to succeed, Israel continued with attacks overnight, leveling predetermined targets across Gaza after notifying locals that they must leave the area if they wanted to live.
Israel claims to have killed more than 17,000 Hamas fighters since the war began after Hamas fighters killed 1,200 Israelis on October 7th in the Gaza Envelope.
In attendance of the peace talks are CIA Director Bill Burns, US Middle East envoy Brett McGurk, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Egypt’s intelligence chief, Abbas Kamel.
An expeditious termination of the conflict comes at the heels a feared regional escalation by Iran after Israel assassinated Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran just a few weeks ago.

Since July 31, the US has increased its presence in the region with the diversion of carrier groups, submarines, and other military assets to the Middle East.
Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, met with Former US President, Donald Trump in Mar-a-Lago in July where it has been reported that Trump told him to “quickly end the war in Gaza.”
